The design pulled from nautical themes but reinterpreted them in a modern way; throughout the space are details comprised of materials typically found on a boat including a striking statement floor with a graphic art project reinterpreting nautical maps created by local Bermudian artist Christina Hutchings out of boat boot-striping tape. The interior is kept light and airy with a custom table in all white surrounded by stools for a central communal working space for guests. A serene, one-room space allows clients to come in for express nail treatments and pedicures while on their lunch or coffee break. The project’s small budget influenced a fun design where curtains hid raw unfinished walls and storage areas while readily available furniture and finishes were transformed into special elements.
